On August 2, 1943, a baby boy was born to the late Anthony Douglas Collins and Helen Ross Collins. He was the fifth of seven children, Vivion, Vernon, Reginald, Richard, the late Paul, and Jean Collins, born to this union. Being the kind and compassionate person he was, he quit school to help his parents financially. Thus began a long career of hard work, which started with farming and ended with forty years of roofing. Benjamin became the “best” roofer on the Eastern Shore of Virginia and Maryland.

After many years of waiting for a young lady he had seen and prophesied that he would marry, on September 30, 1995, he began his life with Gloria Cannon Collins. They shared twenty-three years together and during this time Benjamin gave his life to the Lord. This union afforded Benjamin the title of father to Terrell Northam (Monique) and later, grandfather to four grandchildren, Aah’Nijah, Ronta, Taylor, and Ta’laya. Benjamin was also blessed with a sister-in-law, Valerie Sturgis and three sisters-in-love, Sheila Mapp (Len), Marsha Graves, and Robin Harrison. He and Gloria adopted a son, Monte’ Strand (Chimera), and embraced three godchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Benjamin was a quiet, saved, and sanctified man who loved the Lord with all of his heart. There were many days and nights when he would fall asleep praying in the spirit. Yes, there were times when he would fall asleep in service because of his illness, but he would always share a “Yes” or “Amen” when he heard the word. Benjamin would give God praise in his own way. He wouldn’t shout like most, but he had a reserved shout of his very own. Even a stroke couldn’t and wouldn’t stop his praise. To the very end he gave God praise!
