Rachel Byrd, beloved daughter of the late George and Mary Elizabeth Baker, was born on July 7, 1924 in Mappsville, Virginia. She departed this life on July 2, 2019 at Hartley Hall Nursing Center in Pocomoke, Maryland.

Rachel was educated in the public schools of Accomack County. At an early age, she began working in the farming industry and later gained employment in the poultry industry. She started her career at Perdue Farms and ended it at Tyson Foods, formerly Holly Farms. Rachel dedicated many years of service until her health began to fail.
Rachel was united in holy matrimony to the late Dorsey Byrd and their union was blessed with three children, Alphonso, Mary, and Barbara.
Rachel was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, which she joined in her youth. She served her church in many capacities and assisted with many auxiliaries. She loved to worship and fellowship at her church.
Rachel loved to travel and did so often; there weren’t many bus trips that she missed. She was known by many far and wide and her kind spirit attracted all. Rachel was an inspiration to many and will be truly missed.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Mamie, Madge, Ida, Lois, Olive, Georgia, Cloteal, and Dorothy.
Rachel leaves to cherish fond memories her children, Alphonso Byrd, Mary Byrd, and Barbara (Alfonzo)Byrd Parker; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two nieces; four nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
