Obituary for Billie Jean Johnson (Tull)

Billie Jean Johnson, was born to the late Hollis and Nettie Tull, Sr. on June 7, 1936. She departed this life on October 4, 2018 at her residence in Wattsville, Virginia.

Jean, as she was affectionately known, was educated in public schools of Accomack County. She worked at Buddy Boys, P & L, and some field work too. She also worked at Perdue Farms in Accomac, until she retired to take care of her father.

On May 1, 1958, she married the late James Leroy Johnson. In later years they renewed their vows at St. John’s United Methodist Church, where they were members. They shared fifty-eight years of marriage.

Billie Jean was also known as, “Mom,” “Grandma,” “Ant Jean,” “BJ,” “Billie Jean King,” and “Sister.” She was always willing to help anyone in need and would speak her mind. Jean would feed you and lay you out at the same time. Whenever you would visit her she would ask, “What you bring me” but before you left she would say, “Bring me some soda and candy when you come back.” The kids will never forget how they got beat for a broken tree limb, that Dwayne broke. All of these fond memories are looked upon with love.

Jean was preceded in death by her son, Paul Ellis Johnson and two brothers, Calvin Tull, Sr. and Hollis Tull, Jr.

Left to cherish her memories are: two grandchildren, Shontel Johnson of Chesapeake, VA and Valeria Taylor of Newport News, VA; two godchildren, Jahnee Beasley of Norfolk, VA and James Mitchell (Kinya) Tull, Jr. of New Church, VA; brother, James Mitchell (Marsha) Tull, Sr. of Onancock, VA; three sisters, Nettie Mae (James) Laws of Palmyra, NJ, Terry Seymour of Wattsville, VA, and Vanessa (Theodore) Drummond of Atlantic, VA; one brother-in-law, Keith (Debra) Johnson of Atlanta, GA; two sisters-in-law, Cynthia Tull of Atlantic, VA and Maureen Tull of Kansas City, MO; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.
