Obituary for Alice Mae Savage

Our beloved Alice Mae Savage was born on February 27, 1965 in Painter, Virginia. On October 31, 2018, God dispatched his angels of mercy and carried Alice to her eternal rest.

Alice received her education in the Accomack County School System. She had the honor and privilege of walking down the aisle with her brother Lee, cousin Dot, and Nandua High School’s graduating Class of 1985. That was a special day for Alice and her family. After high school, she became employed at Nandua High School the same year, working in food service. She worked there for approximately thirty years.

Alice confessed a hope in Christ at an early age and joined the New Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where she worked out her soul’s salvation. She attended church, Sunday school, and Bible study faithfully. As a matter of fact, she didn’t like to miss church. Alice was a cheerful giver and you could see the joy when she gave. She blessed so many people behind the scene, because she learned that “God blesses us to bless others.” Most of all, Alice truly knew the Lord and loved Him with all her heart. She was not ashamed to witness of His goodness. Alice didn’t mind praising the Lord. Her vocabulary wasn’t like everyone else’s, but she never failed to say, “Thank you Jesus.”

Alice had a challenging but blessed life. Her parents, Fannie Mae Ayers and Abron Lee Ayers Sr., loved her so much and made sure she didn’t want for anything. They even dressed her from head to toe, she always wore the finest. Alice faced many trials and struggles in life, but Jesus always worked it out for her. She grew up in her home with her siblings Lee, Patricia, and Pandora, and she truly loved them. Alice’s parents made sure she stayed in church. After Alice’s mother Fannie went on to be with the Lord in 2010, her sister and brother in-law, Annie Pearl Giddens and Thomas Giddens, took Alice into their home. Even though Alice was not their biological daughter, they loved and treated her like one. Whenever Aunt Pearl had other obligations, Alice’s cousin, Elder Dorothy Giddens, would come all the way from Cheriton to assist. Sometimes, she just wanted to ride and let the wind blow in her hair.

Alice felt the joy of motherhood when her son, Kentrell, was born. She nurtured and gave him a mother’s love that was remarkable. She missed him so much when he passed, but her life lit up even more when she became a grandmother. Christian was her precious grandchild. Alice’s nephew, Quatavius and energetic little cousin, Jewel also added joy to her life. She always rewarded Quatavius for doing good in school and would give him the biggest hugs and kisses. Jewel was her sunshine that could brighten up anybody’s day. She always made sure Alice took her medication.

Alice had a beautiful smile that would lift anyone’s spirit. People loved to joke with her, and she would joke right back with them. She loved bowling, playing dominoes, eating out, riding with her cousin Dot, listening to Gospel music, shopping, and overall spending time with her family, whom she loved dearly.

Preceding her in death were her parents: Fannie Mae Ayers & Abron Lee Ayers, Sr. and Rudolph Savage; son, Kentrell Savage; and special cousin, Shirley Ann Furman.

Left to cherish her memory is: her grandson, Christian Kentrell Anthony Savage of Salisbury, MD; brothers, Abron Lee Ayers, Jr. of Keller, VA and James Walters (Melissa) of NY; sisters, Patricia Ayers of Onancock, VA, Pandora Ayers of Painter, VA, and Darlene Fiddemon (Tony) of Accomac, VA; daughter in-law, Brittney Savage of Salisbury, MD; special aunt & uncle, Annie Pearl Giddens and Thomas Giddens of Painter, VA; special cousins, Elder Dorothy Giddens, Tanesia Holley (Darin), Thomas Giddens (Makeda), Jackee’ Giddens, Mandelia Fisher (Vakeyla), Quai’Drell Kellam, Jacob Johnson (Carleah), and George Furman III; godmother, Mary Helen Wyatt Lilliston of Newport News, VA; special friends, Sidney Chandler and Chantel Chandler; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Beloved Alice, you will be truly missed by all.
