Barbara Elaine Bailey Harmon, beloved daughter of the late Leroy Wilmer Bailey, Sr. and Violet Sample Bailey, was born on February 1, 1953 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 12, 2018.

Barbara, also known to her family as “Elaine,” was educated in the public schools of Accomack County and graduated in 1972 from Central High School in Painter, Virginia.

She was joined in holy matrimony to Tommy Lee Harmon, Sr. on August 31, 1974. From this union they shared a son, Tommy Lee Harmon, Jr.

In earlier years, Elaine was employed at Perdue Farms in Accomac, St. Paul’s On the Shore Day Care in Hallwood, Migrant Head Start in Parksley, and finally at Bel-Art in Pocomoke, MD until she became disabled.

Elaine was predeceased by her parents. She was the oldest of the union of Leroy and Violet. She has departed this side and the sibling circle is now broken, but Thanks Be To God, they shall reunite again in Heaven.

Elaine’s favorite thing to do was spending time with her two precious grandsons, Ke’Sean and Tavis. They were her world, and she spent most of her time spoiling them, as doting grandmothers do. She called them “My Boys,” and Ke’Sean and Tavis loved her dearly.

She had a special bond with her adoptive daughter, Felicia Blake, who was also her caregiver. Their relationship was filled with serious conversations and plenty of laughter and love. There was nothing that Felicia would not do for “Miss Barbara,” as she affectionately called her. Many times, before she could call her, Felicia would be there. It was almost as if she knew just when she needed her.

Elaine enjoyed decorating her home, working in the yard, planting flowers, and shopping-lots of shopping. You might even call her the “QVC Queen.”

She leaves to cherish her precious memories: her husband, Tommy Lee Harmon, Sr.; her son, Tommy Lee Harmon, Jr. and daughter-in-law Dannette Harmon of Oak Hall, VA; two grandsons, Ke’Sean Thomas Harmon and Tavis Lee Harmon both of Oak Hall, VA; a goddaughter, LaToya Bailey Hudson of Middletown, DE; an adoptive daughter, Felicia Blake (Mike) of Pocomoke, MD; five sisters, Yvonne Bailey Nedab of Wachapreague, VA, Joan Bailey Mason of Eden, MD, Vanessa Bailey of Parksley, VA, Glynis Bailey Savage of Melfa, VA, and Phyllis King of Baltimore, MD; three brothers, Leroy Bailey, Jr. of Bear, DE, Prentice Bailey of Oldsmar, FL, and Dennis Perkins of Norfolk, VA; two sisters-in-law, Sandra Bailey of Bear, DE and Mary Savage (Vernon) of Melfa, VA; three brothers-in-law, Dalbert Nedab, Sr. of Wachapreague, VA, Robert Mason of Eden, MD, and Ralph Harmon of Blackwater, VA; one aunt, Betty Young of Melfa, VA; two uncles, James H. Bailey of Newark, DE, and Norman Custis, Sr. of FL; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

To Mrs. Barbara,
It has only been a month and some days since you left. Every time I drive by Newtowne Apartments, I either ignore looking up there or I look up there. Either way, I say to myself, "Mrs. Barb is not up there." Although you are in a better place, I miss knowing you are here physically. I will never forget all the laughs we had and how I would attempt to call your niece Tanika to tell on you. Or when I would do your hair and it was not a dull moment. Or when Felicia would let me know all the time what you was doing or how you was feeling. Seems like after Mrs. Grace passed, I really didn't help anyone for a while. That is when Felicia asked me to do your hair and I gladly agreed. Now that you are gone, there is a part of my heart that I am missing just like parts of my heart went with my Grandmother, Mrs. Grace and other seasoned seniors. I Love You my sassy cookie! May you Rest in Peace.

"Barb" will be so deeply missed at Newtowne Apartments in Pocomoke City, MD. To get to know her was to love her. I will always remember our last conversation about a bottle of honey she needed for her cough, a few days prior to her passing. Jokingly, I told her "now you don't have to wonder if I love you, this shows it". She started tearing up and I hugged her and told her to stop that and go home and fix her tea and she went away laughing. I'll cherish the "talks" we had about Jesus and salvation and hope that she had made her peace with God. Rest on "Barb"! I love and miss you! Lovingly, "Miss Joyce" (Joyce Schoolfield, D5)
