Ida was often called Ida Mae, but to her family she was known as “Boobe.” She was educated in the public schools of Accomack County and graduated from Mary N. Smith High School. Ida worked at Perdue Farms for several years until her retirement.
Ida was a faithful member of New Mt. Calvary Baptist Church until her health began to fail. She was a member of the Jeffery L. Smith (JLS) Choir and the Senior Choir. Boobie will always be remembered for her Christian lifestyle that was committed to God and serving mankind. These qualities earned her the respect from the community at large.
Boobe enjoyed spending time with her family, taking pictures and playing games. Even though she didn’t have any biological children, she was like a mother to her nieces and nephews. She was the parent they all wanted to have.
Ida was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Mary Helen and Norma Chandler.
She leaves to cherish her memories: three godsons, Steven Cropper, Teyon Crosby, and Kedanta’ Chandler; two sisters, Shirley Chandler of Cambridge, MD and Hattie Chandler of Parksley, VA; three brothers, Levin (Josephine) Chandler of Salisbury, MD, Willie (Bessie) Chandler of Delmar, MD, and Bobby (Sarah) Chandler of Melfa, VA; very special niece, “Dee Dee”; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
