Hythia was reared and educated in Northampton County, Virginia. At an early age she accepted Christ as her personal savior.
Hythia worked at Perdue Farms and continued to work in her home, making sure her family was always taken care of. She really loved her children and grandchildren, and they loved her just as much. Hythia loved to cook for her family, especially fried chicken; her son-in-law, Lorenzo would definitely agree with that. She was always sweet, but if you got under her skin, her favorite saying was, “I’ll kick your ___ in 13.”
Hythia was preceded in death by her husband, Otis Doughty, Sr.; children, Phyllis Doughty and Baby Doughty.
Left to cherish her fond memories are her seven children, Nancy Doughty Harmon of Bloxom, VA, Otis (Ethel) Doughty, Jr., Angela (Lorenzo) Godwin, Marilyn (Cleveland) Lathan, all of Exmore, VA, Freddy Doughty of Rehoboth Beach, DE, Ray (Marshell) Doughty of Parksley, VA, and Eric Doughty of Exmore, VA; seventeen grandchildren; a special grandson, Martez Doughty, who she raised as her own; thirty-two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Sarah Bull of Berlin, MD and Catarine Simmons of DE; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
