She was the fourth child that shared sunshine in the home of her parents. Her smooth transition was made early Saturday morning, April 20, 2019, when the doors of heaven opened and she walked in. Shortly after receiving her education in the Accomack County Public Schools, she relocated to Philadelphia, PA to live with her sister, Oleathea and a fond caring cousin, Elis Northam Bundick. They helped to mold her life and gave her a positive start as she transitioned into her formative years.
On March 3, 1941, Greatha united in holy matrimony with Ernest White. This blissful union resulted in many years of a beautiful life together. Aunt Peacie embraced the workforce and was gainfully employed at John’s Bargain Store and at John Wannamaker, both in Philadelphia.
Though she did not have children of her own, she was a mother to all children. Some of her happiest days were enjoying family and friends. No one was a stranger when entering her home. Because she enjoyed cooking, you either had to feast on one of her delectable meals or drink something before leaving. There was always enough food for all. “Aunt Peacie or “Aunt Reds” as she was affectionately called, lived her life to the fullest. She received and showed much love.
After the demise of her husband, Ernest, Greatha gradually faced another phase of life and eventually relocated to the Eastern Shore. Aunt Peacie became a resident of The Manor in Parksley, VA, where she resided for 10 years. As her health began to fail, it became necessary for her to become a resident at Shore Health & Rehab Center. Her outgoing personality afforded her many friendships and acquaintances. Aunt Peacie also became a member of Macedonia AME Church.
Left with many fond memories are her nieces and nephews, Marcie White, William Fosque (Margaret), Fannie Fosque (Harold), Timothy Fosque (Gina), Gwendolyn Turner (Larry), Regina Singletary, Robbin Fletcher (Eldridge), Olethea Savage, Marneda Bailey (Mersha) and Erika Dennis (Glenwood); niece-in-law, Sarah Watson; and many other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
