James Cornell Rich was born to the late Rufus Rich and Catherine Pulley on June 1, 1949 in Savageville, Virginia. He entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at Bon Secours St. Mary’s Hospital in Richmond, Virginia after a brief illness.

“Jimmy” or “Rich,” as he was affectionately known, was a very humorous person and made everyone he came into contact with happy. In his early days he enjoyed coaching his softball team, “The TJs.” Jimmy also enjoyed watching his favorite football team, The Washington Redskins. He had a great love for fishing and enjoyed doing so in his leisure.
Jimmy was educated in the public schools of Accomack County and Patterson, New Jersey, where he graduated from John F. Kennedy High School. He enlisted in the United States Army and was honorably discharged after his service. James joined the workforce at Holly Farms in Temperanceville, Virginia. He recently retired from the University of Richmond as a security officer.
James was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, William Truss, Basil Truss, Tyrone Truss, Barry Pulley, and Jay Taylor.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Connie Rich; seven children, Lisa (Calvin) Washington, Tammy (Sherwood) Bailey, James T. Rich, James D. Rich, Taurus Miller, Samantha Jackson, and Jennifer Villa; ten grandchildren, Monica, Calvin, Jr., CaDarius, Lyric, Courteney, Jayanna, Jakira, Tinishia, LaChika, and Camesha; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Deanna Keys and Barbara Milbourn; two brothers, Linwood Pulley and Albert McKenzie; two sisters-in-law, Vivian Taylor and Audrey Pulley; two special cousins, “Johnny Boy” Davis and Ivonnia “Sis” Drummond; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
