Gloria Anne Hargis, beloved daughter of Thomas Hargis, Sr. and Lois Hargis, was born on June 23, 1947 in Wattsville, Virginia. She was called to her eternal home on Tuesday, July 23, 2019.

Gloria received her early education in the Accomack County Public Schools and continued her education in New York City at the College of New Rochelle.

Gloria’s career with the New York City Public School system lasted twenty-three years at one school, PS 133. She returned home to Virginia to care for her elderly family members, but her love for children brought her back to the school system in Virginia. There she continued to work with children until June, 2019 and was looking forward to another school year.

She was a long-time member of Friendship United Methodist Church, now New Beginnings, and worshiped at Canaan Baptist Church while living in New York City.

Gloria will be remembered for her kind and thoughtfulness, cooking, witty remarks, and colorful sense of humor.

She leaves to cherish her memories: her children, Carlette, Xavier, Crystal, and Chanta; brothers, Thomas, Jr. and Ronald; son-in-law, Carl; daughter-in-law, Barbara; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a number of special family members, including Olivia, Kathy, Danielle, Mable, Donette, Dolly, and Celeste; numerous cousins and friends.

Ms. Gloria was a colorful character who added so much to my classroom. The love she had for children was always evident. I enjoyed getting to know her and working with her for the past two years at Nandua Middle School. Next year will not be the same without her.
Thinking of her family and keeping them in my prayers.

I just found out & didn't want to believe. I met Ms. Gloria when I was working at Pungoteague Elementary School, she really was a beautiful person inside and out. My heart felt condolences to her entire family.

"Old Glo" was never old! Ms. Gloria was always willing and able to tackle anything. When we worked together in Perdue, she willing faced the daily challenges of QA. I loved to see her smiling face and cheerful attitude. I will miss my friend, Ms Gloria...a fine lady!

Flukie, George, Crystal and Chanta my condolences to you and the remainder of the family. I am sorry I couldn't make it to Aunt Gloria's homegoing. My prayers are with you all. I am here if you ever need anything. Aunt Gloria was my Diva! She was a light to all that she came in contact with. She definitely was an example to me on having a open and loving relationship with my girls as she had with each of you. I love you always! Nizzi

Whenever I got to speak with Ms. Gloria, I could feel her kindness and care. Even on the telephone she made me feel like I was at her kitchen table. Sending love and support to her children, her family✨ Rachelle
