Obituary

Thelma Delores Woolford, beloved daughter of E.S. Davis and Christine Byrd, was born June 28, 1948 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. God called her home on Thursday, July 24, 2019.

Thel, as she was affectionately known, began her education in the Accomack County Public Schools and finished with her EGD from the Job Corps in New Jersey.

Thel’s work history included: a life insurance agent, Quality control supervisor at the Eastern Shore Seafood, custodial services, and multiple stents within the Accomack County School System ranging from cafeteria worker to substitute teacher, her last position before her death.

Thel enjoyed attending her home church, First Baptist Church in Mappsville. She was a member of the missionary, the senior choir, and a Deaconess. She loved listening to gospel music.

Mom, mother, Thel, Thelma, or Mrs. Woolford was very unique, she did it her way. She believed in the importance of education and expressed that belief to others. Her wisdom and fortitude will be greatly missed.

Thel leaves to cherish her memories: her husband of forty-six years, Emerson Woolford; children, Lydia “Vickie” (Shannon), Edward “Andre” (Tee), Sandra “Cindy”, Marlo, and Louis (Debbie); twelve grandchildren, Nicholas “Nick,” Markus “Mark,” Calvin “Squeak,” Laday “Day,” Victor, Asia, Kenyia, Darius, Cianni “C.J.,” Xyrus, Gabrielle, and Jennifer “Jenny;” thirteen great-great grandchildren, one special great-great, granddaughter, Selena “Linny” whom she was raising; five step-children, Kevin (Sandy), Larry (Renee), Emerson, Jr., Ronald, and Brenda; three sisters, Millie, Lottie, and Annette; two brothers, Dennis (Cindy) and Harry (Regina); one uncle, Gregory Watson(Brenda); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Dorsey Lee Byrd; and two grandchildren, Christina and Nathaniel.

Hi Vicki and family. I’m so sorry to hear of Mrs.Thelma’s passing. I remember all the time at FBC growing up seeing her sitting in the pews. May it comfort your hearts to reflect on memories of her. Love you all.

Just wanted the family to know how much I enjoyed working with Ms. Thelma at KES. I first met her when I taught Selena in Kindergarten. What a joy she was to others. I will treasure her words of wisdom and the many memories she left. My thoughts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time!
