Lonnie Davis Jones, Sr. was born on April 4, 1945 to the late George Jones, Sr. and Martha Bailey. He departed this life to spend eternity with his heavenly Father at 5:10 AM on September 6, 2019 at the VCU Health System Hospital in Richmond, Virginia.
Lonnie gave his life to Christ at an early age, was baptized, and became a member of the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ in Cape Charles, Virginia. He was a member of the male chorus and also shared his gift of guitar playing.
Lonnie chose the career path of truck driving at a young age. He dedicated forty-five years to this field and the majority of that time he was an owner and operator of his own company. He employed and mentored many young drivers and was always willing to assist anyone trying to learn the trade.
Lonnie was the seventh of nine children and was preceded in death by two sisters, Katherine and Annabell; three brothers-in-law, James, Sr., Linwood, and Arthur Lee; one sister-in-law, Margaret; and one son-in-law, Stewart.
He leaves to celebrate his life and cherish his memories: his wife of fifty-three years, Earnestine; five children, Mattie A. Jones (Byron Watson), Lillian O. Williams (Tony), Liza M. Smith, Lonnie D. Jones, Jr. (Amy), and nephew, Kenji Elder (NaDasha); eleven grandchildren, LaTisha, Ardra, Rashad, Lonnie, III, Shavelle, Breon, Stephvon, Khadeim, Ashely, Branton, and Melody; six great-grandchildren, Jamaal, Amiyra, Christian, Jamari, Akira, and Zyaire; five siblings, Edward (Mary), Gracie, Marthra (Lewis), Franklin (Barbara), and Jaspery (Gloria); four brothers-in-law, Thomas, Jr., Earl (Michelle), Fred (Patricia), and David; six sisters-in-law, Lillian Viola, Barbara Ann, Daisy, Elaine, Rita, and Odell; and a massive number of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
