Obituary

Eula Strand Johnson was born to the late George Douglas West and Maggie White West on June 3, 1921 and the wife of the late Henry Strand. She was called home to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 16, 2019 at her residence.

In her youth, she became a member of Bethel AME Church, where she dedicated her life to serving God. She was a loyal and dedicated member for over seventy-two years, serving as president of both the Usher Board and Senior Choir, member of the Missionary Society and Steward Board, and superintendent of the Sunday school.

Eula was educated in the public schools of Accomack County. She joined the workforce at an early age at the Colonial Manor for Mrs. Norman Horsey for forty-seven years. Eula relocated to Washington, DC for four years. There she met and married the late Glen Johnson. Soon afterwards, she returned to Onancock, where she went back to work at Colonial Manor until her retirement. Even after retiring, she continued to work part-time for Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Evans of Onley and the Doughty family of Keller.

She is survived by seven children, Clinton (Jeanette) Strand, Florine Giddings, Milton Strand, all of Onancock, VA, Pearl (David) Smith of Paterson, NJ, Barbara (Jerry) Joynes of Onancock, VA, George D. (Linda) Strand of Columbia, MD, and Stanford Strand of Onancock, VA; eighteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; fifteen great, great-grandchildren; two brothers, Wendell West and Irvin West; special family members, Jerry and June Evans; and a host of other relatives and friends.
