Earvin Richard Christopher, age 72, departed this life on November 16, 2019 at the Riverside Regional Hospital in Newport News, Virginia, after losing a short and hard battle with cancer. He was born to the late Edward W. and Rena Willie Christopher, on October 30, 1947 in Wattsville, Virginia.

At an early age, Earvin joined and was baptized at Friendship United Methodist Church in Wattsville, Virginia. He attended grammar school in Wattsville and graduated from Mary N. Smith High School in Accomac, Virginia, where he excelled in football and was named Captain of his team in his senior year. Upon graduation, he joined the United States Army and served honorably in the United States and overseas in West Germany. While assigned in Europe, he received achievement awards for excelling in playing football for U.S. military teams and performing his military job. Upon being honorable discharged, Earvin worked in several jobs, from the Williamsburg Lodge in Williamsburg, Virginia, General Motors plant in Wilmington, Delaware, and prior to his sickness and death, Ray’s Shanty Seafood Restaurant in Wattsville, Virginia.
Earvin was preceded in death by two brothers, Jerry Ray Christopher and Edward James “Pete” Christopher and his only sister, Maxzine E. Powell.
He is survived by: his sons, Patrick Keith Doughty of Pocomoke City, MD and Charlotte, NC and Anthony Irving Washington of Hanover, MD; one brother, George Christopher of Hampton, VA; two granddaughters, Sophia Isabella Washington of Hanover, MD and Nilajah Monique Doughty “Lala” of Snow Hill, MD; grandson, Markeith Deon Doughty of Salisbury, MD; great-granddaughter, Skye Marie Doughty of Princess Anne, MD; great-grandson, JaNaz Deon Clayton of Snow Hill, MD; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
