Ciera began her early education in the public schools of New Castle County, Delaware. She later became a student at Arcadia High School after moving to Virginia to help care for her maternal grandmother, Barbara Harris; whom preceded her in death. Ciera later joined the Job Corps where she discovered her love for cooking and decided to pursue her culinary certification.
In addition to her passion for cooking, Ciera loved to host family gatherings and throw together a shin-dig for any given occasion (holidays included). She would spend hours at a time shopping and walking around in her favorite stores…Walmart and The Dollar Tree. She had a knack for creativity and loved to search for ideas and inspiration on Pinterest. Ciera also loved her music and she has notebooks full of songs that she has written over the years.
Ciera had many dreams that she wanted to fulfill in her life, but God had other plans for her that were unforeseen. The infectious smile that lit up her face and her larger-than-life personality will certainly be missed by everyone that knew her and loved her. She was known for having a heart of gold and would give anyone who needed it— the shirt off of her back.
Ciera’s life was a bright light and her transition will leave a great void in the hearts of everyone that she touched and especially to those that loved her. In the short life that she lived, she made an impression on everyone that she encountered and she never met a stranger. She definitely had the gift of gab and a love for people.
She loved her little family and always felt the need to take care of them and to provide all that she could for her mother and her sister, Tamiya. Although those two knew how to push each others buttons, their sisterhood and their bond was a very special one. She always made sure that each of them felt special on their birthdays and on holidays and Ciera always had that knack for buying the most special and memorable gifts. Making other people happy, is what made her happy. Family and friends as well.
Ciera is survived by the love of her life and her pride and joy her son, Zhamir. As a single mother, she always made her child her priority. His health, his education, and his well-being was the most important thing to her. She was committed to raising her son to be an outstanding young man and a respectable and caring citizen. To know and to meet her son is proof… that this was truly her greatest accomplishment.
In addition to her 14 year old son, Zhamir Lopez, Ciera is survived by her mother, Tammy Lopez (Pocomoke, MD); her father, Efrain Lopez (Atlantic City, NJ); sister, Tamiya Lopez (Pocomoke, MD); paternal grandmother, Victoria Lopez (Atlantic City, NJ); godmother, Lucille Pierce (Bridgeton, NJ); and a goddaughter that she loved like her own, Mary Miles (Pocomoke, MD).
She also leaves to cherish her memory a host of aunts; which includes her very special great-aunt, Brenda Corbin James (Wilmington, DE); several uncles, cousins, and her very near and dear girlfriends; who she affectionately called, “her people.”
As the days and the weeks go by, there will be so many things that we’ll each miss from her absence. Hold your fondest and most special memories of her close to you. In your heart is where she will never die. There will be many things that we’ll never understand about this loss; but we are never supposed to put a question mark…Where God has put a period.
