Elton Ahas Douglas, son of the late Robert Bailey and Melissa Douglas, was born March 5, 1933 in Withams, Virginia. He transitioned from this earthly life to his Heavenly home on Tuesday, December 31, 2019 at Sentara Princess Anne Hospital in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Elton was educated in the public schools of Accomack County. He served his country in the U.S. Army 10th Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kansas. Elton was employed as a truck driver for many years. He became a carpenter after leaving the trucking industry.

Elton was joined in holy matrimony to Josephine Novella Fletcher on December 23, 1956. From this union three children were born.

Elton was preceded in death by his parents; son, Ervin; his daughter, Doelia; grandparents, Issac and Carrie Bailey; two brothers, Clyde Copes and Robert Bailey; one sister, Barbara; and granddaughter, Kimberly Corbin.

Elton was surrounded by many loyal caregivers: his daughter, Aniece, grandson, Dontae, and Victoria Greenley and Stacie Grovatt of Riverside Home Health Services.

He leaves to cherish fond memories: his wife of sixty-three years, Josephine Douglas; two daughters, Aniece Douglas Harmon of New Church, VA and Linda Corbin of New Church, VA; son-in-law, Authur Harmon of Lakewood, WA; two sisters, Trina Bailey of Pocomoke, MD and Charlene (Lawrence) Bunting of Salisbury, MD; one brother, Lawrence Bailey of Withams, VA; four grandchildren, Shatecia Harmon, Dontae Harmon, Katresa (Melvin) Johnson, and Kyle Corbin; great-grandchildren, Ivan Jones, Jr., Christopher Corbin, and Khyjair Corbin; brother-in-law, Samuel Fletcher, Sr.; Deborah Matthews, whom he loved as a daughter; and a special niece, Patricia Press. Elton opened his heart and his home to Sammy, Vee, Michael, Jr., Morgan, and ShiHeem. He will be truly missed by his good friends Calvin Lewis, Wallace Drummond, and Willie Laws. Elton is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
