“Satch,” as he was affectionately known, was educated in the public schools of Accomack County. Following his graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army. Though the Army was nice, he decided that he wanted to be closer to his family. Therefore, he returned home. At that time, he found employment with the County of Accomack. He was employed with the Building and Grounds Department for more than twenty-five years. He was forced to retire due to his illness, however he continued to work and help others in any way he could.
Satch was mild mannered and cool at all times. He loved his family, friends, and associates. He was also an avid mechanic and self -taught auto body technician; he could fix anything. Satch believed that life was what you make it, therefore make the best of it.
Sterling was preceded in death by his son, Doran Satchell; and his sisters, Margaret Major Chandler, Jean Satchell Shrieves, and Jantice Satchell Savage.
