Michelle Angelic Sample, daughter of the late Gerald Scarborough and Myrtis Sample, was born on July 8, 1969. She departed this life on April 21, 2020 at her residence in Melfa, Virginia.

“Sha Sha,” as she was affectionately known, was educated in the public schools of Accomack County. She was employed at Perdue Farms in Accomac, Virginia.

Sha was a member of Holy Trinity Baptist Church in Pungoteague, Virginia. She was also a member of the culinary ministry.

Sha Sha was a people-person, she was life of the party. She loved music and dancing. She was fascinated with cars and loved for hers to be clean. She would say, “I can’t ridin’ in no dirty car.” Sha loved to make people laugh. She loved her kids and her family. Her two favorite sayings were, “Family Is All We Got,” and “Sha Sha in the Building!”

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Shakira Sample.

Left to cherish memories are: her only son, Donta Sample of Melfa Va; two sisters, Tracy (William) Gunter Melfa, VA and Nakia Sample Accomac, VA; one brother, Kenyatta (Demetria) Sample of Canton, GA; two aunts, Sandra Sample of Dover, DE and Cheryl Kellam of Gainsville FL; two uncles, Howard (Betty) Sample of Bronx, NY and Charles Scarborough, Sr. of Keller, VA; one great-aunt, Martha Sample of Nassawadox, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

In the light of the evolving situation with COVID-19 virus, we are making adjustments to adapt to the current health emergency. In order to reduce the spread of the virus in our community, we are limiting the public’s access to our facility. We will continue to serve our families with the utmost dignity, as well as maintain the safety guidelines provided by the Center for Disease Control (CDC). We have received notification from the Virginia Board of Funeral Directors and Embalmers that funeral homes are included in the Governors Executive Order Fifty-Three (2020), which imposes the following restriction: Effective 11:59 p.m., Tuesday, March 24, 2020 until 11:59 p.m., Wednesday, June 10, 2020, all public and private in person gatherings of 10 or more individuals are prohibited. In accordance with the Governor's Executive Order Fifty-Three, Cooper & Humbles Funeral Co., Inc. will comply and hold all services private until further notice. We will not have any public viewings. In an effort to accommodate family and friends, we are posting photos and the funeral/graveside service video of your loved ones on their respective Book of Memory pages on our website, This will allow you to have a lasting memory picture and attend the service virtually. We thank you for your patience and understanding during this difficult time and as soon as this matter is resolved, we will resume our normal practices.

Sha I miss you so much!

When I received the news of your passing, I was in complete shock!
I was hoping that it was just an asinine hoax, rather than the brutal truth. Unfortunately for those of us who know and love you, it was oh too true.
When reality hit, all things started to run through my head, growing up as kids, coming to NY for the summer visits, hanging out in the clubs, getting our hair done at Black Hair Is (even the time they screwed up my hair you were there to calm me down and keep me out of jail), living with me in NY and helping with my kids….so many fond memories.
You were the one who, like your mother, told it like it was, not holding back, not being mean, but just opening up our eyes to the truth.
You have left your mark on everyone who has had the pleasure to know you.
Your dedication to your family was so evident to all, even with the hardships and struggles; when anyone would have given up, you persevered!
Time is so short, we all think, I will give her a call tomorrow, see how she is doing, but time gets in the way and you don’t make that call; you hear devastating news and you think to yourself why didn’t I call when I said I would, now it is too late and guilt sets in. A deep hurt that lingers in the heart. How do you relieve that pain that cuts so deep?
My heart goes out to your son, alone, without his ride or die, his heart, his everything. And this virus that took your life too soon, doesn’t just stop there, it continues to make it difficult to be able to go to him and hug him and tell him that things will get better, it will be very difficult, but it will get easier and always know that you have family here to support you. I know his Aunts and Uncle will take on the role of being there to make sure that the hard work Sha put into raising him into the man he is today continues. We know she is in heaven with Mirt and Tweety watching over him too!
Sha, thank you for being a part of my life and family. You have touched me in ways that you probably didn’t even know that you did. I will always remember you as a loving, caring, funny and humble person. You are gone, but NEVER forgotten.
Love you eternally,

Carmen Taylor-Acevedo

I will always cherish the fun times I had with Sha; like hanging out in New York, how she made us laugh at our family gatherings and how she sometimes called me Canick. Such a sweet, sweet person with a big heart. You are now safe in the arms of God where you have perfect peace and happiness. You deserve it. You will be greatly missed. I love you ❤️
