Crystal Lee Perkins, daughter of Gladys Ann Perkins and the late Nelson Lee Perkins, was born on December 15, 1981 in Nassawadox, Virginia. She departed this life on May 5, 2020 after a brief illness at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center in Chesapeake, Virginia.

Crystal received her education in the public schools of Accomack County. Upon graduation from Nandua High School, she received a Nursing Assistant’s certificate. She furthered her education at the Eastern Shore Community College, where she received her Associate’s Degree in Business Administration. Crystal moved to Chesapeake, Virginia to pursue her Bachelors Degree at Centura College in Virginia Beach, Virginia. She was employed at Senior Corp Home Heatlh Care Services in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Crystal loved her two children, Ja’Keria, who aspires to become a doctor and Ja’Keem. They were the apple of her eye. She also loved her family very much. Crystal always planned family functions and criticized her sisters cooking, even though she ate it and always took some home.

Crystal loved shopping and her reality TV shows, Real Housewives of Atlanta, Basketball Wives, Married to Medicine, The Oval, and Sisters.

Crystal was not a person to sit aside silently at a funeral, family gathering, or anywhere! She kept you laughing; there was never a dull moment when she was present. Crystal was the only person that could get her mom to go on vacation or even out of town. She will be remembered as a loving mother, daughter, sister, aunt, niece, and friend.

She was preceded in death by her father, Nelson Perkins; grandmothers, Dorothy Thomas and Maggie Clifford; grandfathers, James Rhodes and William Giddens; sister, Ingra Fitchett; uncles, Arthur Thomas, Walter Thomas, Charlie B. Johnson, and Johnnie Jones, Sr.; aunts, Odessa Borden and Mary Weeks; and cousin, Marcus Johnson, Sr.

Crystal leaves to cherish her memories: two children, Ja’Keem Perkins and Ja’Keria Strand; mother, Gladys Perkins; brothers, Anthony (Nancy) Thomas, Wilbur (Daphine) Thomas, Angelo (Taishawna) Perkins, and Nelson Williams; sister, Tanya (Conway) Coston; nephews, De’Angelo, Ke’Ondre, Quan, Tyreek, Darius, Jeremey, Juwan, and Nazaire; nieces, Bridget, A’lexus, Latrice, Nikita, Markita, Elyana, and Nariah; uncles, William (Fannie) Giddens, Howard Thomas, Samuel (Diane) Thomas, Robert Thomas, Rickie Perkins, and Willie (Rebecca) Johnson; aunts, Etta (Delando) Williams, Alice Giddens, Shirley Parker, Lola (Larry) Harmon, Pastor Diane Jones, Martha (Allen) Riley, Barbara Williams, Geraldine Tankard, Lolita (James) Hall, Mary, and Sally; godparents, Connell and Michelle Reid; best friends, Shaneka Davis and Cynthia Brothers; and a host of great nieces, great nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

In the light of the evolving situation with COVID-19 virus, we are making adjustments to adapt to the current health emergency. In order to reduce the spread of the virus in our community, we are limiting the public’s access to our facility. We will continue to serve our families with the utmost dignity, as well as maintain the safety guidelines provided by the Center for Disease Control (CDC). We have received notification from the Virginia Board of Funeral Directors and Embalmers that funeral homes are included in the Governors Executive Order Fifty-Three (2020), which imposes the following restriction: Effective 11:59 p.m., Tuesday, March 24, 2020 until 11:59 p.m., Wednesday, June 10, 2020, all public and private in person gatherings of 10 or more individuals are prohibited. In accordance with the Governor's Executive Order Fifty-Three, Cooper & Humbles Funeral Co., Inc. will comply and hold all services private until further notice. We will not have any public viewings. In an effort to accommodate family and friends, we are posting photos and the funeral/graveside service video of your loved ones on their respective Book of Memory pages on our website, This will allow you to have a lasting memory picture and attend the service virtually. We thank you for your patience and understanding during this difficult time and as soon as this matter is resolved, we will resume our normal practices.
