The beloved and only daughter of Cecil and Victoria Watson, Nancy Lee Watson Topping, was born on August 5, 1935. She departed this earthly life to return to her heavenly life with God on July 20, 2020 at 5:30 AM at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital.

At an early age she moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, but quickly returned to the Shore to live with her grandparents, Walter “Dink” and Hattie Watson. They spoiled and loved her dearly. Nancy received her education in the public schools of Accomack County. She joined Adams United Methodist Church at an early age and was a member of the Young Adult Choir.

In June of 1960, she married Vaughn Topping, Sr. Nancy was a family-oriented person; her favorite pastime was spending time with her seven children. She loved to cook, especially rolls, pies, and homemade ice cream. Nancy loved her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great, great-grandchildren. Each was special to her, but she had special names for three of them, “Molly,” “Dancing Boy,” and “Mouthie.” Nancy also raised her first cousins, Chico Ayres and the late Upshur Ayres.

Nancy leaves to cherish her memories: her husband, Vaughn Topping, Sr.; seven children, Deborah (Sylvester), Keith, Vaughn, Jr., Oscar “Pop,” her baby, Calvin (Joan), Thelma, and Rhonda (Art); nine grandchildren, Tyki, Kedia, Ya’Shica, Calvin, Jr., Darsha, Dominique, Tyrell, Jamar, and Tre’Vaughn; fifteen great-grandchildren; two great, great-grandchildren; one aunt, Emma Edwards; three step-children, Mervin, Yvonne, and Debbie; thirty step-grandchildren; fourteen step-great-grandchildren; one cousin she raised as her own, Chico Ayres; two special guys she considered as her sons, Dwayne Hargis and Curtis Dix; and a host of other relatives and friends.

To my family of Nancy L. Topping - My condolences as you grieve- Don't let go of your precious memories. They'll get you through this difficult time. Nannie was like a mother figure to me. Always kept me with green vegetables- I have such precious childhood memories of your mom. We reflects the best parts of our Parents thanks to the loving way they raised us. Take comfort in your memories as you grieve. A mother is with us always, first in her lifetime, then forever in our memory.
