Melvin Lee Nock, son of the late Willie and Elizabeth Bailey Nock, began his earthly journey on September 4, 1949. After a brief illness, he was called home on Saturday August 1, 2020, at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital.

Melvin worked for Public Works in Accomac, Virginia for twenty years. He was forced to retire due to his health. Upon retirement, he became a taxi, day care provider, and health care provider. He loved his family and would help all of them without hesitation. He spent most of his day watching harness races via the internet, and watching The Young and the Restless and the Bold and the Beautiful.

Melvin saw the good in everybody and everything. In the midst of adversity instead of being angry he would say “It will be alright, I’m just going to let GOD take care of it.”

He was preceded in death by both parents, Willie and Elizabeth Nock; brother, Curtis Nock; mother-in-law, Corine Taylor; and sister-in- law, Janice Gaskins.

Melvin is survived by his wife, Emma of twenty years; four daughters, Melvina Nock, Vachella Nock, Tyisha Griffin, and Danika Hughes; one son, Markivus (Shakea) Mapp; Torres Colona, Derrick Colona, Marvis Colona, and Jarvis Colona, whom were like sons to him; thirteen, grandchildren, Aaron, Jamontae, Jaheim, Sy’Najah, Aleilah, Atyana, Anijah, Taleiyah, Jy’Quay, Tariq, Tayla, Tivoni, and Ashleigh; four great-grandchildren, Azaria, Amira, Messiah, and Asai; one sister, Maggie Nock; three brothers, James (Mary) Nock, Leroy (Berneda) Nock, and Purnell (Lisa) Nock; two aunts, Maggie Custis and Polly Parker; three sisters-in-law, Phyllis Smith, Barbara (Jerry) Wright, and Angela Nock; one brother-in-law, Booker (Juanita) Murphy; special friends, James Conquest and Gregory Conquest; and a host of other relatives and friends.

I did not know Melvin, but his grandson, Jamontae worked with me at Eastern Shore Printers. Just reading his obituary, reminded me a lot of Jamontae's kind, gentle spirit. I am sure that Melvin in resting in the arms of Jesus now and enjoying the peace that only God can give. I pray that you, the family, find comfort in the arms of God at this time. I pray that you will let Jesus give you the encouragement and perseverance that you need to endure this painful loss. Knowing Rev. Percy James as I do, I know he is there with you every step of the way helping you cope.
Love and prayers,
Peggy Kellam (Stevens) Byrd
