Obituary

Mary Catherine Bundick, was the beloved daughter of the late McKinley Smith and Rosie Smith. The adored wife of the late George Ernest Bundick, Sr. departed this life on March 1, 2021 in the comfort of her own home in Painter, Virginia with her children surrounding her, after a brief illness.

Mary was born in Northampton County, Virginia on November 14, 1927, and lived in the Keller and Painter areas for most of her life. She received her education in the Northampton County Public School system. At an early age, she joined Bethel Baptist Church in Franktown, Virginia, later joining Herbert’s Baptist Church in Wachapreague, Virginia after her union with George. There she served as an overseer of the Junior Usher Board and worked as a Senior Usher. Mary was a member of the Deaconess Board, as well as the Mother of the Church. She was also affiliated with the Eastern Star sisterhood.

Mary was married to George Ernest Bundick, Sr. in 1945, and to this union thirteen children were born-five girls and eight boys. She loved spending time outdoors, gardening, cooking, and especially she loved making her famous Eastern Shore yeast rolls. Mary loved watching television and some of her favorite shows were Matlock, Gunsmoke, Bonanza, The Waltons, Perry Mason, Murder She Wrote, Little House on the Prairie, and Touched By An Angel. She also enjoyed driving to Exmore and Painter with her co-pilot, Diane until her vision began to fail, as well as spending time laughing with her family.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mary was preceded in death by four of her children, Elizabeth, Gladys, McKinley, and George, Jr.; siblings, McKinley Smith, Janet Carr, Rosie Anne Washington, and Milton Smith; two granddaughters, Camisha Bailey and Becky Harmon; and a grandson, George, III.

Mary leaves to cherish fond memories: her children, Pastor Martin Bundick (Rosa) of Birdnest, VA, Rosemary Vinnie (Charles) of Keller, VA, Diane Perkins of Painter, VA, Sandra Harmon (Steve) of Painter, VA, Samuel Bundick (Deidre) of Carlisle, PA, Milton Bundick (Judy) of Warner Robins, GA, Keith Bundick of Hampton, VA, Ronald Bundick (Barbara) of San Diego, CA, and Andre Bundick (Miranda) of Killeen, TX; granddaughter whom she raised and adopted, Ranique Bundick; thirty-eight grandchildren; sixty-seven great-grandchildren; nineteen great, great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Bernice Bundick of Hampton, VA; son-in-law, Charles Scarborough of Keller, VA; two sisters, Helen Smith of Greensboro, NC and Bernice Cloud of Columbia, SC; one brother, William Smith of Baltimore, MD; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
